The only explanation I can think of is that XR wasn't used to being around someone like 42. And she was the first female robot he met ... That is a good point. She was the first one who ever showed any kind of interest in him - no matter how fake that interest may have been.

You guys said she has control issues, and people/robots(I guess) like that know how to control people despite their personality. In my opinion, she knew what she was doing to him, and took advantage of his...I want to say lonelyness(Yes, I spelled that wrong on purpose)...but that's not the word...maybe his need for acceptance took over his being, and turned him into someone else, and he did stuff that he wouldn't normally do. He wanted for her to truly love and accept him so bad that he let her do/ say anything she wnated to him...until the end, when he realized that he was just a joke to her.

^^ Sounds about right. Sad, really. Poor XR.
And welcome to the forum, new person! =D

You bring up some good points. And you made me think of something else... I never really considered this before, but it seems kind of obvious now. ^^; I always tended to think of 42 as the same kind of robot as XR; one with a unique individuality - but 42's probably closer to robotic in spirit than XR is. Which would also lend itself well to her being manipulative and uncaring.
Anyway, welcome to the boards! Hope you enjoy! ;D

*BUMP* (Yes, I've been going around bumping things on purpose. This board has been so DEAD lately.)
I also like to think of 42 as being "trapped" in the ship with no one to talk to. And then she realizes after she snapped at XR, "Oh crap, this is probably the one I'll get to talk to on this ship." So she has her little apology, and XR - realizing that for once somebody NEEDS him - sees this as an opportunity and takes it.
Problem is - other than 42 being controlling, moody, and everything else that we said about her - in the end, she finally gets a body, and with that comes independence. She's no longer trapped in the ship, which means she no longer has to stick with XR. So she dumps him.
This obviously must have affected XR more than he let on.

Oh, most definitely. Which is why I hate the ending of this show. >< I realize it's a cartoon and all and they didn't want to end things on a sad note, whatever, but that little bit of comedy at the end just seems so forced to me. It was just a huge blow to his confidence and I don't think he would've gotten right back up like he did in the end - unless he was just that desperate, which could very well be likely. X3
And SQUEEE! this makes me so happy! 83 I'm so excited to see new activity and the boards, I've been hoping we could revive it!

Yay for revival! ;D
Back on topic ...
I think he might have just wanted the others to think he was okay, and that it really wasn't a big blow to him. Or maybe he was just rebounding from the rejection he faced from 42.
But late at night, when he's in his bed ... or charger ... he must feel that hurt all over again.
Man, now I'm tempted to write a fic.

Oh! 42 just makes me soo mad the way she manipulated XR then just broke his heart!
She is just so ungrateful! He risked everything for her when he stole her out of Star Command! His job, his friends. And, to a robot, isn't their job everything? Well, XR has stronger feelings than your average robot, but still... Star Command is quite literally his home! If he losses his job, where's he going to go?
Sorry, getting slightly off topic! Anyway, he risked all that just so the LGMs couldn't shut her down. In a way, he saved her life!
And he was so good to her too! I know he was acting slightly off in that episode with the whole door-mat mentality thing, but I really like the fact that he's so loving to wards her. He cherishes her, praises her, even gets her her own body!
I just love it at the end of the episode when he says "...We can be together all the time, forever and ever, until the sun stops shining..."
AWWW... (-3 I would kill to have any guy say that to me and really, honest to God, mean it! To really cherish me that much!
And she, that awful... Bad person... just throws it all away and breaks his heart! Grr... This is why I generally dislike 42.
Hi, BTW, I'm Diana! Nice to meet you!
