Anybody else get spyware when they were randomly browsing DA, or is that just me?
It's off my computer now, at least it BETTER be!

...This JUST happened to me! D8
How did it happen? Did you get a note about a virus, or did it just randomly pop up on your computer?
I got these weird notes in my inbox... They had the title 'DEVIANTART VIRUS ALERT' or something like that... I assumed it was just a damaged link and didn't even open the notes. I SHOULD have logged off immediately, because I ended up doing virus scans all night. ><
I'm afraid to log on again! D: Has dA been okay for you since then?

Actually, I'm not really sure HOW I got it to begin with. XD
It happened when I was browsing some previous DA journals. All of a sudden, I noticed that there was an extra Internet Explorer application open, which directed me to a file sharing site and automatically started downloading, not just spyware, but a very bad trojan.
Maybe I did get the note, though. I can't really remember. That would explain it though.
I finally got rid of it by running a program called Malwarebyte's Anti Malware, which I downloaded for free of the internet, because Norton 360 did absolutely nothing for me.
It's okay now, I got the trojan around Christmastime last year, and it's been okay ever since. But I don't use Internet Explorer anymore. Now I use a brower called Mozilla Firefox. I hear Internet Explorer has certain "holes" that can let these things attack your system, but since I have a different browser, I think it's harder for spyware to attack it.

Huh, mine wasn't a filesharing site, it was a fake antivirus malware - I seem to be getting those ALL THE TIME. ><
Yeah, I have Malwarebyte's too - awesome program, it helped me clean up all the trojans I picked up as well.
Firefox, you say? Hmm... I should give that a shot. No one else seems to be having a problem with dA... it's just - I've had such a problem with viruses, I'm scared even to log onto the site! :<
Do you know if I could contact the administrators of the site? Maybe I could get them to remove whatever was in my inbox...

Ugh, I know what you mean. I hate those.
Yeah, Firefox works really well. Definitely give it a try. At first I only was using it when I visited dA, but then I made it my main browser because I liked it so much.
Sure, you could try. I'm not sure how to get in touch with them, but if you know, give it a shot! They would probably appreciate it if you let them know of a virus that's going around.

'You have 120523598735626462371 detected viruses.' WHAT THE CRAP?!?!
I've heard Firefox is better; I should give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestion! ^^
Yeah, maybe I'll send them a message anyway... the message did say 'deviantart virus,' they might want to know... :/

'You have 120523598735626462371 detected viruses.' WHAT THE CRAP?!?! Holy cow! That's ... that's insane. Maybe the virus kept reproducing, or something. Unless your comp was already infected and you didn't know? I don't know how on earth you could possibly get that many otherwise.

...Oh... no, I was just mocking the fake anti-virus programs. XD You know how they always show that you have some insane amount of viruses, some really impossible number?
Yeah. XD

XD Wow, I feel stupid. Then again, it's hard to detect sarcasm when your typing instead of talking.
Yeah, basically I've always known that it's spyware if the sentences end with exclamation points.

Hey, that's okay! I'm really bad at sarcasm, anyway. XDDD
Yeah - although some of the fake programs I've picked up can look pretty official. o.o This last one was a thing called Home Antivirus, and it had a desktop icon that had what looked like the Microsoft shield on it. o.O

Man, who creates these little buggers?! DX Yeah, they're pretty good at replicating logos to give you a false sense of security.
You know what's annoying? The first batch of spyware I ever got, I got when I tried to download a free trial of Sony Vegas. I mean, it's SONY for crying out loud!
