My take on society on Marred...

I had an idea recently I don't think I've ever seen before. I think that it'd be neat to see society handling this like an interracial couple in the mid-reconstruction South. Some people (not team Lightyear, maybe OCs at the top, but I can easily see King Nova, some Tangeans- maybe even Commander Nebula- as supporters) are very vocally disapproving and trying to stop it. Maybe even some violent protests. Would certainly be interesting, at the very least.

Hmmm, that is an interesting idea. And we already know how Tangeans feel about "otherworlders", I can't imagine that they hold a robot-organic couple with such high esteem either.

Oh yeah, I could definitely see this couple being met with a lot of opposition. They're not even the same species... XD
For some reason I imagine organics being a lot more vocal about their disapproval - like, I can imagine robots just being all 'whatever, he's just a freak' about it, but organics actually expressing their anger.

I'm considering actually using this POV on it and some other things in my current fic- the reason XR admitted to Mira he liked her was because at the time she had been turned into a robot, and presumed incurable- he says specifically "now things are different and maybe this won't be a disaster," and I think now if I have her cured, I'll expand this way, and other various hurdles, and then have her decide to get turned into a robot again- permanently.

I've actually thought about the hard time that XR and Mira's spawn would have when they grew older.

I could actually see XR's android son trying to ask out a girl in his class and getting rejected because "Unlike your parents, I believe organics and robots shouldn't be together."

What I really wonder about, is how robots are treated in society?

They must be viewed as lower class citizens or something. If they're even considered citizens that is. Do they even have rights, or are they like slaves?

I wonder if XR even gets payed. Think about it, he lives at Star Command, he sleeps in the Science Bay. Any money he owns comes from gambling, and most casinos don't even allow robots. Sure all of his needs are met, but does he really have anything to call his own? Does he even own himself, or have any say in what Star Command does to him?

What happens when he becomes out dated, or if funding for him stops? If he has no right, he couldn't protest!

I've always envisioned this fic about XR fighting for his rights and stuff. Trying to own himself! Sticking up for robot-kind! A lot like the Bicentennial Man.

Oh, I think I remember one episode where XR mentioned something about his salary. So, yeah, he does get paid. I just don't know how much.

Regarding your post, Bicentennial Man was a really good movie. I think it would be interesting, as you say, to see XR in a similar situation - especially considering how much more outspoken he is than Andrew. X3

And especially if Mira would help him.

I've been trying to get the inspiration to write a fanfic about XR fighting for his rights. I've even made an outline and basic play-by-play. But ever time I actually try and write it I crash and burn in the creativity department.

I really wanted to explore how XR going to court with Star Command for his rights would effect all the characters.

I think Booster would be right behind his pal. Although it would be hard for him to go up against Star Command.

Mira would be under a lot of pressure if she joined XR's case. I'm picturing the case as really controversial all over the universe. Her father would say she's disgracing all Tangea if she sticks up for XR. Not to mention she could lose her job! But I think Mira would be beside XR anyway!

And Buzz would have some major issues joining XR. He could lose his job, and Star Command is his life. But he also lives by doing what's right. It's a major conflict of interest for him. Although eventually he too would join XR.

Oh, and it's a Marred fic!

Now if I could only get the guts to write it!
